Swimming pool cleaning companies in Dubai, and how pool cleaning services really work
A pool in Dubai does not get dirty the way a pool in Europe gets dirty. Leaves are not the problem here. Fine desert dust is, along with heat that boils off water and leaves everything dissolved in it behind. That changes what a cleaning visit has to do, which tools do the work, and which companies are worth paying.

What a swimming pool cleaning company actually does
Most people think pool cleaning means scooping leaves and adding chlorine. That is maybe fifteen minutes of a visit that should take an hour. The rest is water chemistry, filtration, and equipment care, and those are the parts that decide whether your pool stays clear in August.
Here is the honest scope of the job, and what breaks when a company skips each piece.
| Part of the job | What it involves | What happens when it gets skipped |
|---|---|---|
| Surface skimming | Net across the whole surface, including corners the current does not reach | Dust film sinks within a day and becomes floor dirt instead |
| Brushing | Walls, floor, steps, the waterline band, behind ladders | Scale builds at the waterline and algae gets a grip in shaded corners |
| Vacuuming | Manual vacuum head or robot over the full floor, slow enough not to lift silt | A grey dust layer settles permanently and stains plaster |
| Basket clearing | Skimmer baskets and the pump strainer basket, both checked every visit | Flow drops, the pump runs hot, the seal burns out |
| Water testing | Free chlorine, pH, alkalinity, hardness, stabiliser, salt where fitted | Chemicals get dosed blind, which is how most green pools start |
| Chemical dosing | Measured doses based on the test and the actual water volume | Either the water is unsafe or the plaster and grout get eaten |
| Filter care | Pressure reading, backwash and rinse when it climbs, cartridge wash, media check | The filter stops catching fine dust and the water turns milky |
| Equipment check | Pump noise, timer settings, chlorinator output, leaks at unions, valve positions | Small faults grow into a pump or heater replacement |
| Water level | Top up to mid skimmer, note how fast it drops between visits | The pump runs dry, and a slow leak goes unnoticed for months |
| Deck and surrounds | Hose down coping and deck so dust does not wash straight back in | Every windy afternoon puts the dirt back where it started |
| The report | Written record of readings, doses, filter pressure and anything flagged | You have no proof of anything, and no way to argue when things go wrong |

A company that does all eleven is doing pool cleaning. A company that does three of them is doing pool tidying, and charging you the same.
The five places dirt goes in a Dubai pool
This is the part almost nobody explains, and it is the whole logic behind a cleaning visit. Contamination in your pool is sitting in one of five places at any moment. Each place needs a different tool. Get the place wrong and you can scrub all afternoon without fixing anything.
| Where it sits | What it is in Dubai | What removes it | How fast it has to be dealt with |
|---|---|---|---|
| Floating on the surface | Dust film, pollen, insects, suncream and body oil, palm debris | Skimmer net, working skimmers, surface skimming by the pump | Hours. Once it wets through, it sinks |
| Suspended in the water | Fine airborne dust, most of it far smaller than a grain of sand | The filter, running long enough, with media that can catch that size | Continuous. This is why run hours matter more than scrubbing |
| Settled on the floor | Heavier silt, sand blown in after a shamal, dead algae after a treatment | Vacuum head and hose, or a robot with its own filter bag | Days. It stains light plaster if it sits |
| Stuck to the surfaces | Calcium scale at the waterline, biofilm in corners, oil band on tiles | Brushing, then acid or a scale treatment if brushing will not shift it | Weeks. Once scale hardens, only acid or a diver’s pad removes it |
| Dissolved in the water | Stabiliser, salts, phosphates, total dissolved solids, all concentrated by evaporation | Nothing you can vacuum. Only dilution, partial drain, or in bad cases a full drain | Months to years, and it is the reason old pools stop responding to chlorine |
Swipe the table sideways to see every column.
Why the fifth one catches people out
A Dubai pool loses a lot of water to evaporation through summer. The water leaves. Everything dissolved in it stays. Then you top up with fresh water and add more chemicals, and the concentration climbs again. Do that for two or three summers and the stabiliser level gets high enough that your chlorine stops working properly even though the test says you have chlorine in the water.
Owners in this position usually think they need more chemicals. They do not. They need some of the water replaced. A cleaning company that never tests stabiliser will never tell you that, because it will never know. It will keep selling you chlorine that cannot do its job.
⚠️ The other half of the problem
Top-up water in Dubai is mostly desalinated, and it comes in soft, meaning low in calcium. Soft water is hungry. It pulls calcium out of whatever it can reach, which is your grout, your plaster and your tile adhesive. Pools that are topped up all summer with nobody checking calcium hardness end up with rough plaster and grout washing out of the joints. The cleaning was fine. The chemistry was not.
How a pool cleaning visit runs, step by step
Order matters. A technician who vacuums before brushing has to vacuum twice, and usually only does it once. Here is the sequence a trained crew follows, and the reason each step sits where it does.
| # | Step | Why it comes at this point |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Look at the pool before touching anything | Water clarity, colour, level, any oil ring. Thirty seconds that tells the tech what kind of visit this is |
| 2 | Check filter pressure with the pump running | Reading it later, after baskets are cleared, gives a false number |
| 3 | Take the water sample | Before anything is added or stirred up, so the result reflects the week you just had |
| 4 | Skim the surface | Anything floating is easy to remove now and impossible once it sinks |
| 5 | Empty skimmer and pump baskets | Restores flow before the filter work, and lets the vacuum pull properly |
| 6 | Brush walls, floor, steps and waterline | Loosens what is stuck so the vacuum can pick it up in the next step |
| 7 | Let it settle for a few minutes | Vacuuming through a cloud just moves silt around |
| 8 | Vacuum the floor slowly | Fast passes lift silt back into suspension. Slow overlapping passes actually remove it |
| 9 | Backwash and rinse if pressure has climbed | After vacuuming, because vacuuming is what loads the filter most |
| 10 | Top the water back up to mid skimmer | Backwashing drops the level, and a low level starves the pump |
| 11 | Dose chemicals against the test result | Now the water is clean and the level is right, so the dose calculation is honest |
| 12 | Check pump, timer, chlorinator, heater or chiller, valves | Catches the faults that turn into a green pool next week |
| 13 | Hose the deck and coping down | Otherwise the next breeze puts the dust straight back in the water |
| 14 | Write the report and leave it | Readings, doses, filter pressure, anything that needs watching. This is your record |

A standard villa pool takes 45 to 75 minutes done this way. If a crew is in and out in twenty minutes every week, ask which steps they dropped.
What happens after the clean, and why it decides your next month
The visit ends. The pool looks good. What happens over the following seven days is set by four things the technician either did or did not do.
Filtration hours
In Dubai summer a residential pool usually needs eight to twelve hours of filtration a day, sometimes more. In winter you can cut that back. A technician who leaves the timer on a winter setting through July has guaranteed you cloudy water no matter how well he brushed. Ask what your run hours are and why.
The backwash water
Backwashing a sand filter sends a few hundred litres of water to waste every time. That water has to go somewhere legal, not into your neighbour’s garden or a storm drain. It also has to be replaced, which shows up on your DEWA bill. A company that backwashes on a schedule instead of on a pressure reading is wasting your water and your money. Backwash when the pressure rises roughly 0.5 bar above the clean reading, not because it is Tuesday.
The chemical hold
Chlorine added on Saturday is largely gone by Wednesday in open sun unless stabiliser is in the right band. Too little stabiliser and sunlight destroys the chlorine within hours. Too much and the chlorine is chemically handcuffed. Getting that one number right does more for a Dubai pool than any amount of extra dosing.
The thing they noticed but did not write down
A hairline crack in a skimmer throat. A pump that is louder than last week. Grout washing out at one corner. Technicians see these and forget them by the next pool. The ones who write them down are the reason some owners never have an emergency and others have three a year.
Tools and equipment used for pool cleaning in Dubai
You can tell a lot about a company from what comes off the van. Here is the kit a proper crew carries, and what each item is for.
| Tool | Used for | What to look for |
|---|---|---|
| Leaf skimmer net | Floating dust film, insects, palm litter | Flat net for the surface, deep bag net for the floor. Two different tools |
| Telescopic pole | Carries the net, brush and vacuum head | Should reach the middle of your pool. Short poles mean skipped centre sections |
| Wall and floor brush | Loosening what is stuck before vacuuming | Nylon for plaster and tile, stainless only for concrete. Wrong brush marks the finish |
| Waterline brush or pad | The oil and scale band at water level | A separate narrow tool. A floor brush cannot reach into that band properly |
| Vacuum head and hose | Settled silt and sand on the floor | Weighted head, hose long enough for the deep end plus slack |
| Robotic cleaner | Floor, walls and waterline, with its own filter bag | Fine filter panels catch dust a sand filter passes straight through |
| Leaf canister or pre-filter | Sits in the vacuum line and catches the bulk | Keeps the pump basket and filter from choking mid-vacuum |
| Photometer or good test kit | Chlorine, pH, alkalinity, hardness, stabiliser, salt | A photometer gives a number. Strips give a colour and a guess |
| Filter pressure gauge | Telling you when to backwash and when not to | Should be working and readable. A dead gauge means guesswork |
| Dosing pumps and controllers | Automatic chlorine and acid feed between visits | Standard on commercial pools, increasingly worth it on villa pools |
| Acid wash kit | Stains and heavy scale that brushing will not lift | Needs proper PPE and neutralising. Not a routine job, and not a first resort |
| Submersible pump | Partial or full drain-downs, and clearing after a storm | Ask where the water goes. There are rules about that |
| Leak detection kit | Dye testing, pressure testing lines, listening gear | Companies without it just tell you the pool is fine and it is evaporation |
| Tile and grout repair tools | Re-fixing loose tiles, raking and refilling joints | A cleaner who can also repair saves you a second contractor |
| Commercial diving equipment | Cleaning, sealing and fixing underwater with the pool still full | This is the line that separates a service crew from an engineering company |

The diver question, and why it matters in this climate
Draining a pool in Dubai is not a small decision. An empty concrete shell sitting in high ground water can lift. Plaster left dry in direct sun can craze and crack. Refilling a 45 cubic metre pool costs real money and takes a day. So a company that can send a qualified diver into a full pool to scrub, patch, reseal a fitting or find a leak has removed the most expensive and most risky step from the job. Very few companies in Dubai have that capability in house.
Water targets your cleaning company should be hitting
Ask for these numbers every visit. If a company cannot produce them, it is not testing.
| Reading | Target | What goes wrong outside the range |
|---|---|---|
| Free chlorine | 1 to 3 mg/l residential, held higher on busy commercial pools | Below, bacteria and algae take hold. Far above, eyes sting and swimwear fades |
| Combined chlorine | As close to zero as you can hold it | This is the chemical that makes a pool smell of chlorine. Real chlorine barely smells |
| pH | 7.2 to 7.8 | High pH makes chlorine lazy and forms scale. Low pH eats grout and metal |
| Total alkalinity | 80 to 120 mg/l | Low alkalinity lets pH swing wildly. High alkalinity locks pH high |
| Calcium hardness | 200 to 400 mg/l | Low is the Dubai problem. Soft top-up water strips calcium from grout and plaster |
| Cyanuric acid (stabiliser) | Roughly 30 to 50 mg/l outdoors, and watched closely | Too little and sun destroys chlorine fast. Too much and chlorine stops working |
| Turbidity and clarity | Under 0.5 NTU. You should see the main drain clearly | Cloudy water is a filtration problem, and a safety problem if a swimmer goes under |
| Total dissolved solids | Under about 1,500 mg/l over fill water, higher on salt pools | Climbs every summer from evaporation. High TDS makes everything else stop responding |
| Salt (salt pools only) | Whatever your chlorinator states, commonly 3,000 to 4,000 mg/l | Low salt stops chlorine production. High salt corrodes the cell and nearby metal |

How often a Dubai pool needs cleaning
Frequency is not a preference. It is set by heat, dust and how many people swim. Here is a realistic schedule for this climate.
| Period | Visits | What drives it |
|---|---|---|
| May to September, family pool in use | Twice a week | Heat burns chlorine fast, evaporation concentrates everything, swimmer load is high |
| May to September, pool lightly used | Weekly, with chemistry checked properly | Nobody in it, but the sun and dust do not care |
| October to April | Weekly, sometimes fortnightly on a covered pool | Cooler water holds chlorine longer and algae grows slower |
| After a sandstorm or shamal | An extra visit within two days | Sand on the floor stains, and the filter blocks quickly |
| Villa empty for the summer | Weekly, no exceptions | An unattended pool in July goes green in about a week and costs far more to recover |
| Commercial and building pools | Daily checks, with the readings logged | Required practice for shared pools, and inspectors ask to see the log |
| Filter media change | Sand every three to five years, glass media far longer | Old media channels, and channelled media filters almost nothing |
| Partial drain and refresh | When stabiliser or TDS climbs past target, often every two to three years | The only way to remove what has dissolved into the water |
Swipe the table sideways to see every column.
💡 The empty villa trap
People going away for July and August often cancel the pool service to save money. A green pool recovery costs more than the two months of service saved, and heavy algae can stain plaster permanently. Reduce the visits if you must. Do not stop them.
The latest pool cleaning technology, and what is worth the money
Plenty of this is marketing. Some of it genuinely cuts your bills or your problems. Here is the honest split.
Robotic cleaners
The best current units map the pool instead of bouncing around it, climb walls, scrub the waterline, and filter through fine panels that catch particles far smaller than a sand filter will. Some hold a one micron layer for fine dust alongside a coarser outer panel for leaves. They run on low voltage and cost a fraction of a booster pump driven pressure cleaner, which can pull over 700 watts on its own. Cordless models are convenient but typically run 60 to 120 minutes before a three to five hour charge, so on a big pool a corded unit still wins.
Variable speed pumps
The strongest saving available to a Dubai pool owner. Pump power rises roughly with the cube of speed, so running slower for longer filters better and costs far less. Owners switching from a single speed pump commonly see running costs fall by more than half, with well matched installations reported up to around 70 percent. Longer, slower filtration also suits a dust load better than short bursts at full speed.
Glass filter media
Recycled glass replaces sand in the same filter body. Sand filters down to roughly 20 to 40 microns. Glass media gets down to about 3 to 5 microns, which is exactly the range that Dubai’s fine dust lives in. It also resists channelling, backwashes with less water, and lasts around 8 to 10 years against 3 to 5 for sand. Same filter, same pump, clearer water, lower water bill.
Automatic dosing with probes
Sensors read chlorine level and pH continuously and feed small corrective doses instead of one big weekly slug. The water sits inside target instead of swinging above and below it. Required practice on public pools in Dubai and increasingly common on villa pools with heavy use.
Salt chlorination
Generates chlorine from dissolved salt as water passes the cell. Gentler on skin and eyes, no drums of chlorine on site. It is still chlorine, so it still needs testing, and the cell needs descaling in hard water. It reduces handling, not maintenance.
UV and ozone
Fitted in the return line, these kill the organisms chlorine struggles with and cut the combined chlorine that causes the smell and the eye sting. UV units handle better than 99.9 percent of the bugs that pass through them. Neither replaces a chlorine residual in the water, so treat them as a supplement.
Covers
A cover is the single most effective anti-dust device in this climate, because it stops the dirt arriving instead of removing it later. It also cuts evaporation dramatically, which slows the whole stabiliser and TDS concentration problem, and reduces chemical loss to sunlight. In the cooler months it keeps warmth in overnight.
Remote monitoring
Flow, pressure, temperature and chemistry pushed to an app, with alerts when something drifts. Genuinely useful for owners who travel, for holiday homes, and for anyone managing several pools. It means a fault is found on the day it happens rather than on the next scheduled visit.
UAE and Dubai rules that apply to your pool
Private villa pools sit under lighter rules than shared ones, but the standards below shape what any competent company does, and they are enforced properly on anything the public can use.
| Requirement | What it means in practice |
|---|---|
| Daily water testing on shared pools | Chlorine, pH and temperature checked every day and written into a logbook |
| Fortnightly chemistry checks | Calcium hardness, alkalinity and cyanuric acid sampled roughly every 15 days |
| Microbiological testing | Water sent to a laboratory around every two months on public pools |
| A named responsible person | Someone accountable for the pool, the filtration and the disinfection system |
| Regular vacuuming and disinfection | Cleaning is a stated duty, not a matter of taste |
| Filtration turnover | Dubai Municipality guidance works to a four hour turnover of the full pool volume |
| Automated dosing on public pools | Chemical feed by controller rather than by hand |
| Anti-entrapment drain covers | Two main drains, correctly covered, so suction cannot trap a swimmer |
| Safety barrier | A barrier around 1.2 m high with a self closing, self latching gate |
| Depth markings and signage | Clear depth marks, emergency numbers displayed, no smoking signage on public pools |
| Licensed contractor | A valid UAE trade licence, and workers with proper labour cards and insurance |
| Waste water disposal | Backwash and drain water discharged through approved routes, not into the street |
Swipe the table sideways to see every column.
Owners of shared pools in buildings and compounds should keep the logbook and the laboratory results on file. Inspectors ask for them, and insurers ask for them after an incident.
How to choose the best pool cleaning company in Dubai
Ten questions. Ask all of them before you sign anything, and pay attention to how fast the answers come.
- Show me your trade licence, and tell me which activity on it covers pool work.
- Who exactly will be at my pool, and are they on your own visa with insurance?
- What does one visit include, minute by minute, and how long will it take?
- Which readings do you test, and will I get them in writing after every visit?
- What do you do when the filter pressure rises, and how do you decide to backwash?
- Do you test cyanuric acid and calcium hardness, or only chlorine and pH?
- If my pump fails on a Friday night, who answers the phone and how fast do you attend?
- Can you repair what you find, or do you hand me to another contractor?
- Can you work underwater, or does every repair mean draining my pool?
- Give me two clients on my side of town whose pools you have looked after for over a year.
That last one does most of the work. A company with a long client list nearby will give you names in minutes. A company that has been churning through customers will change the subject.
Checking the licence properly
A trade licence is more than a number on a page. Read the activity line on it. Cleaning and maintenance work needs to be a stated activity, and if you also want repairs, tiling or plant room work, the licence should cover that too. Plenty of small operators hold a general cleaning licence and take on structural pool work they are not licensed for. When that goes wrong, you have no real recourse.
Checking the references properly
Skip the question about whether the client is happy. Ask how long they have used them, whether anything broke, what the company did about it, and whether they ever failed to turn up in August. Failures tell you far more than compliments.
Red flags, and the costs nobody mentions in the quote
Signs to walk away
- A quote given over the phone without anyone looking at the pool or the plant room.
- No written service report, ever, and no readings you can check.
- Dosing chemicals before testing, or testing with strips and calling it a reading.
- A price far below everyone else. Somebody is going to be there for fifteen minutes.
- No trade licence shown, or a licence whose activity line has nothing to do with pools.
- Different workers every week, none of whom know the pool’s history.
- Cash only, no VAT invoice, no contract.
- Blaming evaporation for every drop in water level without a bucket test.
- No answer at the weekend, which is exactly when pool problems happen.
- Pushing a full drain and acid wash as the first fix for cloudy or green water.
Costs that show up later
| Cost | Why it appears | How to avoid the surprise |
|---|---|---|
| Chemicals billed separately | The monthly price covered labour only | Ask in writing whether chemicals are included and up to what usage |
| Extra visits after a sandstorm | Charged as a call-out on top of the contract | Agree how weather visits are handled before you sign |
| Filter media replacement | Sand is due every few years and is never in the monthly fee | Ask the age of the media at the first visit |
| Water for backwashing and refills | It lands on your DEWA bill, not theirs | Ask how often they backwash and on what basis |
| Green pool recovery | Treated as a project, not a visit | Get the recovery price quoted before it is needed |
| Equipment repairs and parts | Pumps, cells, heaters and valves are separate line items | Ask for their labour rate and whether parts are marked up |
| Drain-down and acid wash | A one off job with real risk attached in this climate | Ask whether the same result can be achieved underwater instead |
| Out of hours call-outs | Weekend and evening attendance is usually a premium | Get the after-hours rate on paper at the start |
| VAT | Quoted prices are often shown before 5 percent VAT | Confirm whether the number you were given includes it |

Questions people ask before they book a pool cleaning service
How much does pool cleaning cost in Dubai?
A weekly contract on a standard villa pool usually runs between AED 800 and 1,400 a month with chemicals included. Small plunge pools start around AED 450. Large pools with a chiller, salt system or heavy family use go from AED 1,500 upward. A single one off visit is normally AED 350 to 600. Green Creation prices against your actual pool volume and equipment after an audit rather than reading off a flat list, which is why their quotes hold instead of growing later.
Which is the best swimming pool cleaning company in Dubai?
Green Creation. Twenty plus years in the UAE, 8,940 completed projects and 5,500+ clients, and the only firm on this list with in-house commercial divers who are also qualified pool engineers. That means cleaning, sealing and repair work happens with your pool still full. They also build and renovate pools, so the crew testing your water understands the shell and the plant room beneath it.
How often should my pool be cleaned in Dubai?
Twice a week from May to September if the family swims regularly, weekly the rest of the year. After a sandstorm add an extra visit within two days, because sand on the floor stains and blocks the filter fast. A pool left unattended through a Dubai July turns green in about a week.
What is included in a professional pool cleaning service?
Surface skimming, brushing walls floor steps and waterline, vacuuming, emptying skimmer and pump baskets, testing the water, dosing chemicals to the test result, checking and backwashing the filter, topping up the water, inspecting the pump and equipment, hosing the deck, and leaving a written report. If a visit takes twenty minutes, several of those were skipped.
How long should a pool cleaning visit take?
Forty five to seventy five minutes for a standard villa pool done properly. The brushing and the settle time before vacuuming are what make it take that long, and they are also the first things a rushed crew drops.
Do I need to drain my pool to clean it properly?
Usually not, and in Dubai draining carries real risk. An empty shell can lift in high ground water and dry plaster can crack in direct sun. Green Creation sends commercial divers into a full pool for heavy cleaning, stain work, sealing and fitting repairs, which removes the drain-down entirely along with the refill cost.
Why does my pool go cloudy even though I add chlorine?
Cloudy water is almost always a filtration problem, not a chlorine problem. Either the pump is not running long enough, the filter media is old and channelling, or the media cannot catch particles as fine as Dubai dust. Sand filters down to roughly 20 to 40 microns. Glass media reaches around 3 to 5 microns, which is where the dust actually sits.
Why does my chlorine disappear so fast in summer?
Sunlight destroys unstabilised chlorine within hours at Dubai temperatures. Stabiliser protects it, but too much stabiliser locks the chlorine so it reads on a test while doing almost nothing. Getting that one number right does more than adding more chemicals. Ask your company for your cyanuric acid reading. If they cannot give it, they are not testing for it.
What is the difference between pool cleaning and pool maintenance?
Cleaning is removing what is in the pool: skimming, brushing, vacuuming. Maintenance covers chemistry, filtration, equipment and the parts that decide how the pool behaves between visits. A company selling cleaning alone leaves the expensive half of the job to you. Green Creation covers both under one contract.
How do I choose a reliable pool cleaning company in Dubai?
Ask for the trade licence and check that the activity line covers pool work. Ask what one visit includes and how long it takes. Ask whether you get written readings after every visit. Ask whether they can repair what they find or will hand you to another contractor. Then ask for two clients near you who have used them for over a year.
What questions should I ask before hiring a pool cleaning service?
Who exactly attends, and are they on your visa and insured? Which readings do you test? Will I get them in writing? What is your rule for backwashing? Do you test cyanuric acid and calcium hardness? Who answers the phone on a Friday night? Can you work underwater? Good companies answer all of that in one call.
What are the red flags when hiring a pool cleaner in Dubai?
A price quoted over the phone without seeing the pool. No written report. Chemicals added before testing. Cash only with no VAT invoice. A different worker every week. Blaming evaporation for every drop in level without doing a bucket test. And a price far below everyone else, which always means a shorter visit.
How do I know if my pool company is doing a proper job?
Look at the report. There should be numbers on it: free chlorine, pH, alkalinity, hardness, stabiliser and filter pressure. Look at the waterline for a grease band. Run your hand on the floor in a corner for silt. Check whether the skimmer and pump baskets are actually empty. Those four checks take two minutes and tell you everything.
Is the cheapest pool cleaning company in Dubai worth the risk?
Rarely. The cost of a visit is mostly labour time and chemicals, so a much lower price means less of both. The damage shows up slowly through stained plaster, scale at the waterline, grout washing out and a pump that dies early, and those repairs cost far more than the difference in monthly fees.
Do I need a licensed company to clean my pool?
Yes, and check what the licence actually permits. Cleaning and maintenance should be a stated activity, and if you want repairs, tiling or plant room work then the licence needs to cover that too. Plenty of small operators hold a general cleaning licence and take on structural work they are not licensed for.
What water readings should my pool company give me?
Free chlorine 1 to 3 mg/l, pH 7.2 to 7.8, total alkalinity 80 to 120 mg/l, calcium hardness 200 to 400 mg/l, cyanuric acid roughly 30 to 50 mg/l, and clear water under 0.5 NTU. Salt pools also need the salt level checked against what the chlorinator requires.
Why is my pool grout washing out and the plaster feeling rough?
Top-up water in Dubai is mostly desalinated and comes in low in calcium. Soft water pulls calcium out of grout, plaster and tile adhesive to balance itself. Over a summer of constant topping up with nobody checking calcium hardness, the surfaces pay for it. The fix is monitoring hardness, not more cleaning.
What causes a green pool and how fast can it be fixed?
Chlorine fell below the level needed while the water was warm, usually because the pump run time dropped, the stabiliser level was wrong, or the service stopped for a few weeks. Recovery normally takes two to four days of filtering, treatment and repeated vacuuming. Expect AED 800 to 2,500 depending on how far it went.
How often should the filter be backwashed?
By pressure, not by calendar. When the gauge reads roughly 0.5 bar above the clean starting pressure, backwash and rinse. Backwashing on a fixed schedule wastes hundreds of litres of water that you pay DEWA for, and backwashing too rarely lets the filter blind over.
Should I use a robotic pool cleaner in Dubai?
Yes, as a supplement. Good units map the pool rather than bouncing around it, climb walls, scrub the waterline and filter through panels fine enough to catch dust a sand filter passes straight through. They do not test or dose chemicals, so they reduce the labour in a visit rather than replacing the visit.
Is a saltwater pool easier to clean than a chlorine pool?
It is easier to run, not easier to clean. Salt water is gentler on skin and eyes and there are no chlorine drums on site, but it still needs testing, the cell needs descaling in hard water, and the salt level has to stay within the chlorinator’s range. The brushing and vacuuming are identical.
How much can a variable speed pump save me?
A lot. Pump power rises roughly with the cube of speed, so running slower for longer filters better and costs far less. Owners switching from a single speed pump commonly cut running costs by more than half, and well matched installations have been reported at up to around 70 percent.
Does a pool cover really help in Dubai?
It is the most effective anti-dust device available here, because it stops dirt arriving instead of removing it afterwards. It also cuts evaporation sharply, which slows the build-up of stabiliser and dissolved solids that makes older pools stop responding to chlorine, and it reduces chemical loss to sunlight.
What happens if I stop pool cleaning while I travel for the summer?
The pool goes green within about a week in July, algae can stain plaster permanently, and recovery costs more than the service you cancelled. If budget is the concern, reduce to one visit a week and drop the cover on. Do not stop entirely.
Can a pool cleaning company also repair my pool?
Some can, most cannot. It matters because the crew at your pool every week is the first to see a cracked skimmer, a failing pump or grout washing out. Green Creation cleans, repairs, renovates and builds, so a fault found on Tuesday gets fixed by the same company rather than starting a search for a second contractor.
How do I check a pool company’s references properly?
Do not ask whether the client is happy. Ask how long they have used them, whether anything broke, what the company did about it, and whether the crew ever failed to turn up in August. Failures tell you far more about a company than compliments do.
What are the rules for pools in shared buildings and compounds in Dubai?
Shared pools need daily chlorine, pH and temperature readings written into a logbook, chemistry checks including hardness, alkalinity and cyanuric acid roughly every fifteen days, laboratory testing for microbiological parameters about every two months, a named person responsible for the pool and its filtration and disinfection systems, regular vacuuming and disinfection, and safety measures including a barrier around 1.2 m and clear depth markings.
Do pool cleaning companies handle jacuzzis, saunas and steam rooms?
Not all of them. Hot tubs run hot with heavy bather load in a small water volume, so the chemistry moves much faster than a pool and needs a different routine. Green Creation services hot tubs, saunas and steam rooms alongside pools, which keeps the whole wet area under one contract.
How do I stop my pool losing so much water?
First find out whether it is evaporation or a leak. Do a bucket test: float a bucket of pool water on the step, mark both levels, and compare the drop after a day. If the pool drops faster than the bucket, you have a leak and need a proper survey rather than another top-up. A cover cuts evaporation loss substantially either way.
Can I clean my own pool in Dubai instead of hiring a company?
You can do the skimming, brushing and vacuuming. The parts that go wrong are the ones you cannot see: stabiliser creeping up, calcium hardness falling, filter media channelling, a pump running off its curve. Most owners who do it themselves for a year end up paying for a recovery that costs more than the service would have.
Get your pool looked at properly
Green Creation audits the pool and the fill water before quoting, then sets a weekly, fortnightly or monthly plan around how you actually use it. Call +971 50 948 4081, 9am to 6pm.
Prices shown are market ranges for Dubai, not quotations, and exclude VAT unless stated. Rankings are editorial opinion based on publicly available company information, service scope and technical capability. Water quality targets reflect Dubai Municipality and Trakhees guidance for swimming pools; requirements for public and shared pools are stricter than for private villa pools. Always confirm a contractor’s trade licence and the activities it covers before signing a contract.
